Cockroach Control

Most people are anxious to get rid of cockroaches when they find them anywhere in their home or business. These pests are associated with filth for a reason. They are also extremely hard to get rid of on your own, once an infestation has been established. That’s why the moment you see a cockroach scurry across your floor, you need to call Effective Pest Services. Since these pests are usually nocturnal creatures, the fact that you have spotted one means you likely have an infestation on your hands. In Northern Colorado, there are three cockroach species most commonly found here; German, American and Oriental cockroaches.

Cockroach Prevention

All of the cockroaches found in North Colorado prefer a warm and humid environment which makes under sinks as well as behind refrigerators, stoves and dishwashers ideal habitats. Cockroaches can be brought home from stores in boxes and bags or gain entry via drains or around poorly sealed doors and windows etc. Home sealing for pest control, thoroughly checking packages before bringing them into your home and routine pest control are great ways to keep them out.

Oriental Cockroach

The Oriental cockroach is not nearly as common but when we do find them, it is often in restaurants and basements. Oriental cockroaches are roughly and inch in length. They are dark brown or black in color and have a glossy body.

German Cockroach

The German cockroach is most commonly found in Northern Colorado homes and businesses. German cockroaches are the smallest of the three species with adults ranging from about 1/2 an inch to 5/8 of an inch. They are tan to black in color with two dark parallel streaks on the pronotum. German cockroach nymphs are smaller with no wings. Click here to learn more about German cockroaches.

American Cockroach

The American cockroach is the second most common cockroach Effective Pest Services regularly encounters. We find them most in restaurants and other commercial building. American cockroaches are the largest of the cockroach species found in Northern Colorado and the adults range from about 1 1/4 to 2 1/4 inches in length. They are reddish brown in color with a yellow band that outlines the area behind their head. Nymphs are smaller and also lack wings.
